CJCOA WINTER SERIES – WESTLAKE RACE 3 July 14, 2024
This is the race committees (RC) report, Vern has already sent out the results. The race committee
was Tom Arthur and Colin Freeman.
The day was cold, according to most sailors, and I am sure I would have agreed if I fell out of the
inflatable, but I didn’t mind the temperature, however I was happy not sailing because although the
wind was a nice strength, it was super shifty. This is borne out by the large variance in all the sailors
heat placings……..and although I was convinced 276 would be last, he managed a brilliant 4th
Those shifty conditions caused lots of RRS breaches but I think an equal number of exonerations, but we
did have 2 general recalls during the day.
The wind was a nor easter and remained true to direction all day making the race committees job
easier, the course was a shortish triangle with 3 laps following a long reach to the first mark to get
the boats in position for the beat.
The RC saw lots of instances where boats in good positions became entangled and losing lots of
places before escaping free, but you know my priority memories of these instances, and indeed most
of the breeches, was how well all the innocent sailors reacted and did not get upset.
Congratulations podium placers, Jim, Keith and Bob for doing so well in those difficult winds……..and
further thanks to those sailors who pitched in at the beginning and end and helped unpack and pack
all the gear away. Colin and I really appreciated your help. But we are not finished yet,
congratulations Bob, Ron and Tony for podium finishes on handicap. I see Bob has managed 2
moments of glory.
