Pictures added to bottom of report. Thanks to Lois Anderson
15 erstwhile competitors turned up for the first of our winter race series of 2021 in cool autumnal conditions.
The conditions went from light to very light necessitating numerous course changes to try to accommodate the trying conditions. The longest race took about 26 minutes.
Numerous passersby commented favourably on the yachts as they ghosted along showing great photo opportunities for those with cameras. The light conditions led to inevitable collisions from time to time with boats finding it difficult to give way when required, but penalties appeared to be done according to the book. Luckily the wind increased for the last couple of races which reduced the frustration factor somewhat.
Chris Koskela showed his class and experience in managing to sail clear of any tangles and was the overall winner after coming home first in 3 races. Al Ross and Keith Drewitt were also very consistent coming home to fill the remaining podium places. The 4th place getter demonstrated just how difficult the conditions were by being the only skipper to record a 1st place and a last place.
My thanks go to Wes and Vern for their invaluable input and help in the organisation of the event and also to Tom Wilda for course setting and recording the results.
Thanks for a great turn out skippers Glen Church (Race Officer)
